Greetings,

As I try to move away from Amazon and Google for my ebook needs, I find myself looking for good apps to organize and read epubs and PDFs across devices.

At least when I can actually get my hands on such files. It's distressing just how much digital reading is confined to walled gardens. Even bookshop.org won't give you files or let you add your own to their reading app--and they're the good guys, right?

In my dream world Libby would let you upload stuff to a private shelf/locker and then I'd have pretty much everything I could want in one nice place on both the phone and tablet. Until such time, however, what are all you book lovers doing for your reading habit and epic digital TBRs?

I have a Kindle I jailbroke, so sometimes I use that to read digital stuff. I have a home server that I run a lot off stuff from, though, and that includes a file share where my phone/laptop/etc. can grab my epubs, which I'll sometimes read via an app called Readest (I use it on Linux as a flatpak and on my Android phone). I also self-host a service called Grimmory (fork of Booklore) that allows you to read through a decent web interface and keep track of everything on "shelves."

My partner has purchased some books on Bookshop.org and just reads them in the web interface. We don't have a way to handle the DRM on them at present, so that's kind of the only option there.
