What are you going to work on this weekend?

My project for the weekend was signing up for privacy.com for single use credit card numbers.

I'm familiarizing myself with LibreOffice. So far it's a bit frustrating - I imported an Excel file and all the fonts are different. A selection of the entire sheet and then changing the font style and size do absolutely nothing. If anyone has any advice or experience with this, I'd love to hear it.

I've also started a conversation with my husband about moving to a Linux OS (which I believe I can still do on a Mac?). I'm not ready to do that on my phone - there are weather apps I use that I'm not willing to give up (we live in Tornado Alley), and I strongly doubt they're available on a Linux phone. I don't use my computer for anything big, just the usual web browsing, email, photo management, music, and Discord, so I feel like moving to Linux wouldn't be too shocking to my system 🙂

Oh, and Steam. I do play games through Steam with friends.

elegy Which model Mac do you have?

There are de-googled versions of Android OSes based on the Android Open Source project that will largely be compatible with your existing apps (assuming you are running an Android phone right now):

AndyH I'm not - I'm on iPhone. Switching, if I go that route, will take me some time.

elegy It can be a bit jarring. I went from iOS back to Android (after may many years) as a daily driver last year when I installed GrapheneOS. Really happy I did.

I’m setting up another 3D printer (resin this time) and building out my JellyFin environment, to replace all of the streaming services.

I had 10 minutes free so I set Kagi as my default search engine in Vanadium on Graphene OS.

It's not really taking anything back from Big Tech or anything, but I switched my note-taking setup from Anytype to Zettlr (desktop) + Syncthing (between laptop & server & Android phone) + Markor (Android). I've struggled with a good note-taking system for a long while, having used Evernote, Joplin, Simplenote, a physical bullet journal (which I still do alongside everything else), and others. Markdown is my preference, and it's nice to have both preview and frontmatter support explicitly accessible. My new setup sounds more complicated than it is in practice, even though it's powered by three separate apps rather than one. Once Syncthing is up and running, it feels much more simplified and plain-text, which really appeals to me.

I'm working on figuring out what locally hosted RSS feed reader I want to run, and then trying to convince my wife that's how she should read the news. 😃
